Michael Klug is a portrait photographer specializing in performative portraiture. His practice centers on carefully staged portrait sessions with professional studio gear, using stylized portraiture to explore expression, character, and transformation. His work is driven by an interest in how portraiture can reveal presence while inviting a subject into performance. In 2019, Klug received the Robert S. Anderson Memorial Award at the Fine Arts Fiesta in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, for his photograph Willy. In 2021, he also received the PTC Best-in-Show Photo Scholarship. Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Klug develops stylized portraits that blur performance and representation.
